Kaitlin B. Curtice: Keeping Our Stories Alive

Jul 2, 2025

Tânsi and Welcome Back

Welcome back to the Matriarch Movement Podcast, a platform that centers Indigenous voices, intergenerational healing, and reclamation through wellness, storytelling, and ancestral knowledge.

In this powerful new episode, I’m joined by Kaitlin B. Curtice—an award-winning author, poet, public speaker, and citizen of the Potawatomi Nation—to explore identity, spirituality, and what it means to embody living resistance.

Honoring Indigenous and Interfaith Wisdom

Kaitlin brings together the depth of Potawatomi teachings and earth-centered wisdom with the practices of Celtic Christianity. Her unique perspective shines through in her writing and storytelling.

Her books—Native: Identity, Belonging and Rediscovering GodLiving Resistance: An Indigenous Vision for Seeking Wholeness Every Day, and the forthcoming Everything is a Story—offer powerful guidance and healing for those navigating complex identities and belief systems.

Language, Ceremony, and Storytelling

We talk about the sacred role that language, ceremony, and storytelling play in reclaiming cultural sovereignty. Kaitlin shares how Indigenous people often live in “liminal” or in-between spaces shaped by history, community, and personal evolution.

One beautiful teaching she offers is the Potawatomi phrase mno waben, meaning “it is good when the sun shines on you.” It’s a grounding reminder that even small moments can connect us to presence and gratitude.

The Four Realms of Resistance

Kaitlin also introduces her “Four Realms of Resistance”: Personal, Communal, Ancestral, and Integral. These realms—rooted in the medicine wheel—offer a cyclical, holistic framework for living with intention and care.

She reminds us that resistance isn’t always loud or performative. It can live in quiet, meaningful acts like tending to a garden, writing a poem, or nourishing ourselves and our communities.

Dreaming in Indigenous Futurism

We close the episode by looking ahead through the lens of Indigenous futurism—imagining a future where Indigenous stories are not just heard but deeply honored on a global scale.

Kaitlin envisions a world where future generations grow up rooted in cultural pride, creative expression, and strong, reciprocal relationships with the land.

This Conversation is For You
