Mar 2, 2026

A Journey From Beadwork to Tech Regalia

In this powerful conversation, Shayla Oulette Stonechild sits down with Angel Aubichon, co founder of Indi City, to explore a journey rooted in cultural heritage, resilience, and Indigenous economic sovereignty. Angel discusses her journey from beadwork to tech regalia, incorporating wearable technology into traditional regalia. Her work reflects a deep commitment to storytelling and cultural resurgence, demonstrating how tradition and innovation can exist together while honouring Indigenous identity and lived experience.

Through Indi City, Angel is helping reshape how Indigenous artistry and entrepreneurship are experienced, centering authenticity, community, and Indigenous economic sovereignty.

Storytelling as Cultural Resurgence

At the heart of Angel’s work is storytelling. She emphasizes the importance of reclaiming narrative power and presenting Indigenous perspectives through lived experience. Her work contributes to shifting the current paradigm surrounding Indigenous people by creating a new perspective of the modern Indigenous person.

Angel openly discusses the personal challenges she has faced along the way, including domestic abuse and the realities of scaling a business sustainably. Her honesty reflects the strength required to continue building while healing, while also highlighting the realities many entrepreneurs face behind the scenes.

Leadership, Growth, and What’s Next

Looking ahead, Angel plans to relaunch the Indi City website in 2026 and expand her product line, with a continued emphasis on women in leadership roles.

During the interview, Shayla reflects on her own journey as an Indigenous entrepreneur, inspired by a vision she received in 2020. The conversation becomes not only a discussion about business, but also about purpose, storytelling, and community impact.
